SOUTH BEND - Daniel Boggs will be at this year's county fair along with two of his faithful companions, Priscilla Pigsley and Koravette.
Daniel shows Hereford beef cows and raises market swine for the fair. He also shows at the Grays Harbor Fair, and the Washington State Fair in Puyallup.
Daniel, 11, enters the sixth grade at Willapa Valley, and is the son of Brian and April Boggs, and the grandson of Corean Layman. His siblings include Matt Sisk, Koralee Sisk, Kaitlyn Sisk and Joshua Boggs.
Daniel got an early start - showing beef and pigs when he was 4-years-old - along with his best friend, James Walden. "The Walden family, of Olson's Timberland Ranch, graciously lets him show one of their Herefords every year," April said. "He also raises a market swine. He feeds, walks and brushes his pig everyday. His pig this year is named Priscilla Pigsley, and she is a Hampshire Yorkshire cross."
Daniel will sell Priscilla Pigsley at the Pacific County Youth Livestock Auction this Saturday (1 pm) at the Pacific County Fair. He will have educational posters and will also show his Hereford cow, Koravette. Daniel is a member of the Beef Buster's 4-H club.
According to April, Daniel "loves all sports, plays baseball, basketball and will be playing football. He goes to church at the Lebam Community and he helps out mom and dad at the Hungry Heifer Diner (which April co-owns). He loves spending time with his brothers and sisters and playing with his nephew and niece. He enjoys fishing with his grandma, Corean."
Daniel is considering joining the U.S. Marine Corps or having a career in law enforcement when he gets older. "His grandpa, 'PaPa' Jerry Layman, was a policeman, and Uncle Heath, is a police chief, and Daniel has two Marine brothers, Matt & Josh; they are his heroes," April said.
