Winolequa Park has a "new" baseball backstop that will allow kids to practice when the dirt fields are not playable in the early spring.
Coach Chris Langhoff and his wife Tami Schultz located the backstop in Port Orchard. With the help of the Park Board, the backstop was purchased for $150 from a private residence. Chris and Tammi dismantled it and transported it to Winlock for installation.
Volunteers spent numerous weekends installing it on the grass field at Winolequa Park. John Schultz donated use of his tractor. Chris Langhoff and Tony Eitel from KemTel Construction, along with Tammi Schultz, completed the framework. Mike Hogg from Hogg's Trucking and Excavation supplied a crew and Genie Lift to attach the fabric in last week's snowy weather. Tim White assisted with supervision of the project.
The volunteers' time and equipment was invaluable as they moved the community closer to having an improved facility for Winlock Youth Baseball's coming season.
