This is the week of Thanksgiving; we all have something to be thankful for. I am thankful for the wonderful community I live in, where we know people are here to help. Thank you to the individuals who donated items this past week to the school. I met with the Superintendent Shannon Criss and there are still many students still in need. Please continue to show your support to the students in Winlock.
The Lioness are busy this time of year with their Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Boxes and Gifts for Winlock children. Clothing is needed for all ages, toys for children 12 and under and toiletry items for teens. Add a little extra to the TAG on the tree at IGA, the toiletry item (age appropriate) please.
Winlock Miller Elementary School will have their Santa Shop open to the students Dec. 1 through 5. On Dec. 6, from 11a.m. - 1 p.m. Santa will be at WMES and the Santa Shop will be open to the public. Pictures packages are available and prices vary.
I do not know how many of you have heard but Ed Leonard passed away on Veterans Day. He was a local hero and POW, we were all blessed the day he came home and we were able to have a parade in his honor. Winlock was in need of a hero at that time at Ed Leonard was our hometown hero!
Winlock Timberland Regional Library will be closed on Thanksgiving. Then, on Saturday, it will be Snowflake Day all day long. Drop by the library to cut, quill and curl to make beautiful snowflakes.
Richard Dibble, a newer resident of Winlock, passed away on Nov. 13. I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with him and must say I am sad to see he left us at such a young age of 68. His sister Diane Haines lives in Winlock and he has two brothers in the Buffalo area, Rick, you will be missed! I don't think you ever met a stranger.
The Winlock Senior Center will also be closed on Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. This week's meals include a variety buffet on Tuesday and Spaghetti on Wednesday. Daily lunches for the public are served for $4 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (reservations appreciated) and senior lunches (must be 60 or older) are on Wednesday and Friday (a $3 donation is suggested).
I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving holiday...Don't let that tryptophan let you sleep the day away. : )
