Looking for a great place to have lunch in Winlock? Try the Olequa Senior Center, where you don't have to be in your golden years to enjoy a good meal and spend time in good company. The lunches take place at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $4 per person Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with a suggested donation of $3 asked on Wednesday and Friday. Also during the noon hour are new exercise classes, featuring aerobics, balance exercises, weight strengthening and stretching. The next Clean Up the Coop event will be this Saturday at 10 a.m. and volunteers are asked to meet at the parking lot in Kerron St., with lunch in the same spot at noon. Taking place the second Saturdays of the month, this ongoing cleanup event is intended to help keep the city looking its best while giving residents pride in their town. October is the last month to check out the Winlock Historical Museum before they close for the winter. Full of artifacts depicting the city's long history, as well as exhibits displayed on a rotating basis, the museum is free to visit with the help of donors and an entirely-volunteer staff. The Winlock Timberland Library announces a chance for area residents to win a free e-reader. All you have to do is sign up for a new library card at any Timberland location during the month of October and you are automatically entered to win.
On Thursday, the library will be hosting The Pigeon Wants a Sleepover! from 5 to 5:45 p.m., encouraging children to bring their favorite stuffed animals for crafts and stories, while their plush friends get to stay the night at the library. Come back the next day and see what mischief your stuffed animal got into.
On Friday, the library will host Family Story Time from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., with stories, rhymes, songs and movement games that focus mainly on children age 6 and younger.
Then the PageTurners will meet to at 12:30 p.m. on Friday to discuss their latest book: " The Fairy Tale Detectives" by Michael Buckley.
