Winlock man dies after I-5 collision

A Winlock man has died after a collision on I-5 near Napavine April 1, according to the Washington State Patrol.

John R Boyer, 62, had been traveling northbound on I-5 near Exit 72 when he suddenly ran off the road and struck the guardrail with his 1991 Ford Ranger, and then crossed the center line and struck the jersey barrier, coming to rest in the left lane.

He was initially transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with unspecified injuries but reportedly died while being transported from there to St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia.

A cause of the collision has been labeled a “possible medical event” and an investigation is under way.
