The fire in Winlock has affected many of us who live along the Olequa Creek. They are saying that all fish have been killed along the creek for 5 miles. For those of us who live on the creek it's a very sad sight to see. I took the time to go look at the creek down along our place and was pleased to not see any dead fish.
Thank you to everyone for doing such a great clean up job for the community. We appreciate all you do!
Our hearts go out to the three firefighters who lost their lives. The fires have now impacted western Washington with all of the smoke. If someone you know has breathing problems, it's wise to keep them indoors during this time. I also recommend that if you have a short nose breed dog to also keep them indoors, it's hard on their little snouts.
The Winlock Branch of the Timberland Bank is collecting items for students and teachers through Friday August 28. If you have items you would like to donate please drop them off at the branch anytime before the close of business Friday. They will give all the items to the PTSA to be distributed to the schools. Their hours are Monday through Thursday 9 am - 5 pm and Friday 9 am - 6 pm. If you can even spare just a few pencils, I know the students will appreciate it. If you are unable to get the items, don't forget we have the Student Support fund also set up at Timberland Bank and you are more than welcome to give money instead.
This Saturday the Winlock Community Building is having their Bingo night. It starts at 6:30 pm and I heard there will be nachos, taco and snacks. There will also be a 50/50 raffle this month so head down and help support the community building.
Winlock Schools are getting ready to start back up for the 2015-2016 school year. If you eat Campbell soups and can keep the labels, the school would really appreciate if you would donate them to the school. Also, don't forget the Box Tops off many cereals and other packaging. Anything we can do to help our schools is a way to improve our community. I was just going through some things I had packed when I moved back from Seattle over 3 years ago and I found another label, you never know what you have tucked away.
