For the Willapa Harbor contingent, five of a total of eight of tri-school wrestling team members placed, finishing in the top four for their weight class.
South Bend's Marcos Perales took first place in the 285-bracket. Matched up against Dovy Cassidy of Klahowya in the championship match, both wrestlers were tied at 2-points apiece going into the second round. Neither giving the other a chance at scoring as the second round was uneventful. Still tied starting the final round, Perales was able to secure a take-down and move ahead in points, but it would take just over a minute for Perales to secure the win by a pin at the 5:10 mark of the match.
In his previous match, Perales also secured a win by pin over Alex Horn of North Beach at 3:39.
Raymond wrestler George Crow took second place in the 220-bracket; his first match of the day was against Stu Barta of Tenino. In the match against Barta, Crow was able to pin him within the first minute of the match. In his next match Crow went up against Maric Taylor of Klahowya, where he also took a first round pin, with seconds left on the clock. Crow then advanced to the championship match against Taylor Rupe of Montesano. The match against Rupe was not a first round walk in the park. Crow and Rupe struggled for the better part of two rounds before Rupe was able to pin Crow at 3:58.
Joseph Lewis of South Bend took second place in the 126-bracket. Lewis had three matches at the Bash at the Beach, the first was against Andre Vasquez of Hoquiam. Lewis was able to pin Vasquez in forty-one seconds. Lewis advanced to go against T. Souphommanichanh of Aberdeen. Lewis was able to pin Souphommanichanh a minute and five seconds into the second round. Lewis advanced to his third match of the day, the championship match for the 126-weight class. Lewis was up against Jesse Velez of Hoquiam. Lewis took Velez to the second round, where he could not hold Velez off any longer and was pinned.
Karson Isaksen of the 106-bracket was the third of Willapa Harbor's team to take second place at the Bash at the Beach. Isaksen went up against Cody Hobbs of Knappa, where Isaksen pinned Hobbs in fifty-one seconds. Isaksen then advanced to go up against Toby Joseph of Chief Leschi. Isaksen and Joseph battled through the first minute of the first round where Isaksen was again able to finish up and pin him in the first round. Isaksen advanced to the championship match to go against Cole Rutzer of Ocosta. The match went into the second round, and Isaksen was behind with a score of 2 to 8 in Rutzer's favor when the first round was over. Isaksen took Rutzer just close to thirty seconds into the second round, when Rutzer was able to pin Isaksen.
Nick Betrozoff of the Willapa Harbor team took a third place in the 120-bracket. Betrozoff went against Cobe Christian of Ocosta, and pinned him in the first round. Betrozoff then advanced to go against Tyler Izatt of Montesano. Betrozoff was able to hold Izatt off of him the entire match through three rounds. Izatt was able to score three more points than Betrozoff, and so won by decision. The final score was 8 to 5 in Izatt's favor.
The next tournament will be in Napavine on January 17 at 10 am.
