The 34th Annual Mount St. Helens Bluegrass Festival will take place this coming weekend at Toledo High School. This is an event that has been going on for so many years, that if you haven't attended you should.
General Cothren, President of Washington Bluegrass Association stated "This is our 34th Annual event and our best one yet. We welcome the community to this extraordinary experience of Bluegrass music and Bluegrass gospel on Sunday. We have a great show lined up and you can meet the band after the performances. Seniors can get their discount but the last day is Wednesday." To get the senior discount, please contact General Cothren at (360) 785-3478.
This is an event that brings people from all over the country, many in motor homes who park and visit on site. It's an event that is so much fun, because you can meet the members of the band, talk to them and thank them for performing. They have a great concession stand, artists sell their goods and a quilt sewing room inside the school. It's a lot of fun to go to the school and see everyone walking around listening to great music. Last year was fun and this year will be even more of a blast!
When General Cothren talks about the lineup he was not kidding about a great show. They have many different bands lined up, some are back by popular demand.
Sammy Adkins and the Sandy Hook Mountain Boys are one of those bands that are back this year. Kentucky native Sammy Adkins formed his first band in 1970 and he created this band in 1990.
The Blue Jay's are one of the youngest groups to perform. Whiskey Deaf is a local Portland band. Many of the remaining acts are from the Pacific Northwest.
