Have a New Year's resolution in mind, or simply hoping to work off all the holiday pounds? The Vader Assembly of God Church has an exercise room available for free to the public, complete with weight machines, free-weights, treadmills, exercise bikes and other equipment. The room is open to adult users during normal office hours at the church Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Just be sure to drop by the office beforehand to sign a liability waiver, and you will be good to go.
The Vader City Council will be meeting on Thursday of next week with multiple weighty issues expected to be addressed in the coming months. The city is looking for a new planner to help guide the process of updating ordinances, as well as determine how to best address zoning issues such as the establishment of recreational marijuana businesses. The city is also looking for a hearings examiner to help enforce new nuisance laws the city has had on the books for some time but has been unable to address without an examiner to facilitate the process. The city is also expecting to move forward soon with the acquisition of property using surplus funding carried over from 2013 and a grant from BNSF, stating they just need to complete a revision of their capital improvement plan before doing so. To learn what other business the city plans to address in the coming year, be sure to attend the city council meetings, held the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 6 p.m. in City Hall, unless otherwise re-scheduled. These meetings are always open to the public, and those not able to attend can listen to recordings of the meetings online for free at www.youtube.com/user/vaderwa. For more information, call City Hall at (360) 295-3222.
The next opening of the Vader Assembly of God food bank is scheduled for Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon, while the food bank will be open again on Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Those unable to make it on either of these dates can attend the church's regular food giveaway outside the post office on Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, call the church at (360) 295-3756.
