May Day 2015 is on its way and community leaders are getting ready to organize the event. Scheduled for May 2 this year, plans are still taking shape and updates are expected in the coming weeks, so look for further details in later columns.
Judy Costello is still accepting donations for improvements to the floral display on the corner of A St. and SR 506. Costello is looking to add benches and additional planters, and those able to contribute toward the goal of $600 can contact her at (360) 295-3036. The plan is to have new fixtures in place by May Day.
This Friday will feature the big sewer facility workshop at City Hall and area residents are invited to attend and hear what options the city has toward upgrading their aging system. Contractors from BHC Consultants, as well as officials with the Department of Ecology and the Department of Commerce, are expected to be available to answer questions, with the workshop ending after all concerns have been addressed. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is open to all residents.
Then, on Feb. 12, City Hall has scheduled another meeting, this time about an extension to a ban against medical and recreational marijuana facilities in town. The ban was extended for another six months on Jan. 8 and local residents are invited to give testimony regarding whether or not the ban should remain in place. Remember, the ban regulates only businesses that grow, process or sell marijuana and does not prohibit the use of marijuana as allowed under state law. The hearing begins at 5:30 p.m. before the City Council's regular meeting at 6 p.m., though the hearing may be extended into the time of the meeting if officials feel it would allow additional opportunities for testimony. For more information on this and other city business, call (360) 295-3222 or visit www.vaderwa.org.
