Toledo Boys Double up Fishermen
Toledo only scored 58 points against Ilwaco in 1A Trico League play, but the Fishermen only managed 29 points in 32 minutes of basketball thanks to the Indians pressure defense. Blake Wood led Toledo scorers with 15 points while younger brother Brent contributed 15 more.
Toledo is now 7-0, but look for coverage of Friday’s match-up with undefeated Kalama in next week’s edition of Town Crier.
Winlock Boys Earn First Win
The Winlock Boys basketball team fought to their first win with a 57-43 Central 2B League over Napavine Dec. 18 night. Caleb Rose, Skylar Tremayne and Enrique Hernandez hit three pointers right of the bat as the Cardinals jumped to a 11-2 lead right away and never really looked back.
Rose scored 17 points while Hernandez added 16. Chance Fisher was key with his dominating performance of 12 rebounds. He scored eight points with several coming on second chance baskets.
Fisher said that the opposing bigs lacked experience and allowed him a little more success than he has had against other teams.
On Thursday evening, Toutle Lake methodically outplayed the Cardinals 56-48 in Central League play. Enrique Hernandez led the Cardinals in scoring with 24 points while Caleb Rose pitched in 15 points. Mike Blum grabbed seven rebounds for Winlock.
Winlock is now 1-5 and will be at Onalaska on January 3rd.
Toledo and Winlock Girls Fall
Both local girls teams were outmatched in basketball this week by opponents.
The Toledo girls fell to Ilwaco 64-34.
Winlock suffered a 58-11 loss to Napavine on Wednesday night.
