We have them. The Willapa Harbor Lions Community Calendar is in its 47th year providing a Community Birthday Calendar. We have a limited quality left and they are still good for eight more months since they go through August. And, every month has a valuable “local” business coupon to use each month.
Like everything else at this time of year, we have our calendars on sale for $5 and with free shipping. You can pick them up at Sheila’s Café in Lebam, the Menlo Store, Raymond Furniture Company, and Washington Physical Therapy in South Bend. By having a birthday calendar, you can keep track of your friends and neighbor’s birthdays and anniversaries. Then, next year you can add your own birthday listings for your family.
The calendars are one of the four major fund raising projects that we do along with the food booth at the Pacific County Fair, and the rain derby that will end on New Year’s Eve. One of our best fundraising projects is taking newspapers, magazines and aluminum cans for recycling. The best part of this project is that it doesn’t cost you anything and all the money we get for recycling stays here in our local community.
These are a few of the local groups that we donate money to during the year: Willapa Harbor Baseball Association, Willapa Harbor Soccer, Willapa Harbor Helping Hands, Willapa Harbor Hospital Annex, Willapa Harbor Food Bank, Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America, Northwest Carriage Museum, Habitat for Humanity, Raymond Theatre projector fundraiser, HAVA, and $6,000 in scholarships, which includes $2,000 to each high school
All of the organizations listed above and the Willapa Harbor Lions want to thank the community and local businesses for supporting our projects so we can continue to donate to these worthy groups.
The calendar year is running out but our Lions Club year goes through June 30th. So keep bringing your newspapers, magazines and aluminum cans to the newly painted “paper shack” on the highway between Raymond and South Bend.
We are always looking for new members. If you have an interest in serving your community, come to the Barge restaurant any Wednesday morning to our 7 a.m. meeting and be our guest for breakfast.
