Vouchers for free disposal of up to 1,000 pounds of household refuse are available now through Sept. 30 for Lewis County residents.
Offered annually through the Solid Waste Division of Lewis County Public Works, both homeowners and renters are eligible, though the voucher application process is different for each.
If you are the owner of a single-family residence, you may print your voucher from www.voucher.lewiscountywa.gov. Renters may obtain a voucher by filling out a paper application at the Central Transfer Station (1411 S. Tower Ave., in Centralia) or the East Lewis County Transfer Station (6745 US Hwy. 12, in Morton) and will need to provide proof of residence such as a recent utility bill.
Please be advised households should not apply for a voucher until they are prepared to use it, as they expire after 30 days and will only be issued once. Also remember you may reduce the volume of refuse in your free load by recycling newspaper, magazine, tin and aluminum cans and glass bottles and jars--all for free--at the transfer stations. Residents using the voucher who exceed the 1,000-pound limit will be charged the regular fee of $90 per ton for the overage.
Remember, this program is available to Lewis County residential households only. Non-county residents and businesses are not eligible to participate. For more information, contact Solid Waste Division Manager Steve Skinner at (360) 740-1403.
