The Labor Day Committee is hosting Sand Bucket Bingo Friday, July 12, 6 p.m., at the Community Center in South Bend. There will be 20 games and the prizes are sand buckets full of fun summer toys. The cost is $7.50 to play three cards all night long.
Wear your Labor Day button and get a free card (one free card per paying player). Buttons will be available at the door for $2 each. Refreshments will be available, as well as some raffle items.
Proceeds will help pay for the Labor Day fireworks show. Bring the family and as always don't forget to Come & Play on Labor Day.
There are some exciting changes in store for the Come & Play on Labor Day celebration this year. New co-chairs are Candy Earls and Tracy Flynn; both are South Bend residents and longtime committee members. The theme for 2013’s event is Beach Balls & BBQ.
In addition to the much loved grand parade and fireworks show, there will be some new events this year, including a BBQ cook off in conjunction with a raffle for a gas grill and a variety pack of meat. There will also be a cupcake wars type contest. Also in the works is a dump truck pull. Look for entry forms and details for all of these events in the next few weeks.
A limited number of Labor Day buttons will be available this year so stock up early, they will gain you entry and discounts at some events and businesses. This year’s t-shirts will feature the Labor Day logo of the running oysters created by Millie Clements many years ago. Pre-orders will start soon for these as well.
Meetings are at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at South Bend City Hall.
