While it’s not officially Summer (that happens on June 21), we’ve had some pretty summery weather. In fact, I don’t think I’ve turned on the heat at all this month! I’m OK as long as the temperatures stay under 80 degrees; after that you’ll hear me whining.
Activities around Town are beginning to heat up, too. The Women’s Club has their monthly luncheon meeting at noon on Wednesday in Pioneer Hall; followed the next day with the Red Hat High Tea on Thursday. This special event will be held at 1 p.m. in Community Hall – all ladies are invited to attend - with or without a red hat! Bring a wrapped “re-giftable” item for the White Elephant Sale and count on fun, fun, fun!
Saturday is Flag Day and some may car-pool or caravan to Long Beach for the season opening of the Columbia-Pacific Farmer’s Market. They make it a really big deal with lots of interest, food and entertainment. Sweet Swing! (who has a Ryderwood connection) will perform 1940’s-style Radio Hour on center stage from noon to 3 p.m. They will bring their talent to Ryderwood in September. Since Father’s Day is Sunday, consider that event celebrated, too!
This is “music week” in Town, too with “Open Mic” on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Karaoke on Monday at 6:30 p.m. – both are at the Café. The Line Dancers have been practicing hard for the upcoming “Sock Hop” to be held on Saturday the 21st. This is a for sure, open-to-the-public event and we’d love to have visitors help fill our lovely Auditorium.
The VFW guys have a Coffee Stop the week of June 16. They’ll need shift volunteers and cookies, cookies, cookies. ‘Tis the season for summer travel, so there should be quite a bit of business. These fund-raising opportunities have a significant impact on our little Town.
Get ready for Ryderwood’s Fourth of July activities! The Parade will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by BBQ Burgers & Dogs w/ Potluck Picnic in the Park at Noon. There will be plenty of time for a nap before Vader’s activities start at 4 p.m. As for fireworks: plan to enjoy Vader’s fine display rather than alarm neighbors and terrorize pets by setting any off in Ryderwood.
