Happy June, everyone! I believe most of the snowbirds are home now and everyone’s yards and gardens are looking super. The rhodies are coming on strong, some of the earliest ones fading already.
This is my final reminder for the 5th Annual Ryderwood Blues Extravaganza coming up this Saturday June 2 p.m. It will be in the Community Hall Auditorium and there is no charge. (All proceeds in the "tip jar" will be donated for traveling expenses.) They’re practicing big time and I expect a surprise or two.
Paul will not host "Open Mic" that evening, figuring most will be "tuckered out" after the earlier activities. Plan to come out next time on June 22. He would also like to remind folks to stop by the Historic FOX Theater on Fridays at noon for their free organ concerts. The physical address is: 119 South Tower Avenue, Centralia, Washington 98531. Paul and others donate their time for the chance to play this beautifully-restored organ.
Consider Long Beach if you want to celebrate Flag Day (Friday, June 14) in patriotic style. (I don’t know how anyplace can be more patriotic than Ryderwood, but Long Beach makes that claim.) The celebration marks the opening of Summerfest and the Farmer’s Market and will feature live entertainment on the new stage in the center of town.
"Sweet Swing", an a cappella trio of women, will perform multiple sets of 40’s Swing favorites from 4 – 7 p.m. (Even if you drive up for the day, you could be home before 10.) These ladies "belt it out" in the style of USO performers, even dressing the part. They are from the Seattle area and the mother of one lives in Ryderwood. Might have to check it out…
