Happy June, and what beautiful weather we've had. I'll take credit for it since it's nearly identical to what I experienced on a recent trip to Arizona. It should have been 20-25º hotter, but it barely got out of the 80s and there was always a comfortable breeze. The swimming pool wasn't even warm enough to use!

A new month means another Town Breakfast this Saturday, June 6. This meal is worth the trip out to the end of SR 506. The menu includes pancakes, ham OR sausage, eggs however you like them, biscuits & sausage gravy - plus orange juice and bottomless coffee. The prices can't be beat!

Speaking of food, the Café will offer "Sandwich Night" on Friday from 4-6 p.m. No reservations are required. Seven dollars gets you a French Dip Sandwich with a side dish, such as potato salad. Then again on Monday, the Café will serve Burgers and Soup from 4-6 p.m. My motto is, "If someone else does the cooking, I'll do the eating!"

The Senior Nutrition lunch on Tuesday the 9th will be Meatloaf with Scalloped Potatoes and Capri Veggies. C.A.P., the Senior Services agency in Cowlitz Co., provides these meals weekly. Reservations are required. Seniors in neighboring counties are welcome. Call (360) 295-3813 or (360) 295-0597 before 6 p.m. the preceding Monday to make or break reservations. The suggested donation is $3 per meal. Take-outs and substitutions are available with advance notice.

Put Saturday, June 20, on the calendar! That's the date of the Second Annual Ryderwood Sock Hop. Local DJ, Steve, will spin your favorite Rock 'n' Roll favorites from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Community Hall Auditorium. I hear there will be Door Prizes. Dig out the bobby socks and saddle oxfords (or not) and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Everyone is invited to stay for the Potluck dinner that follows at 5 p.m. The Tip Jar will be donated to the Café.

With all the new folks in town, I'd like to encourage everyone to make sure to register to vote in Cowlitz County. The November ballot will include an EMS Levy for Cowlitz-Lewis Fire District 20, and it is greatly needed to adequately serve our District. Voter registration can be done online.
