It was great to see so many folks in town for the recent Craft Fair weekend. The weather mostly cooperated and the town looks fantastic, so I hope all of our visitors enjoyed themselves. They (the Ryderwood Women’s Club) will do it all again this October in time for the Holiday gift-giving season.
Mother’s Day brings to a close a very busy spring “season”. It started with the Garage Sale weekend and included Easter and the Spring Craft Fair. It looks like there will be a short hiatus before gearing up for the June 25 “Sock Hop” followed closely by July 4.
I still haven’t stopped by the Auditorium to check out the line dancing lessons on Thursday or Saturday afternoons at 4 p.m., but I’m hearing really good things about it. It’s an activity where no partner is needed, provides excellent exercise and is just fun for all. Now that things have calmed down a bit, maybe I’ll get up to the Auditorium one afternoon to check it out.
All who use Sprint, US Cellular or Verizon cell phones recently experienced “communication issues” when our local US Cellular tower had technical difficulties. Report future outages to US Cellular at 1-888-944-9400 as well as your Sprint or Verizon cell service provider. (AT&T and T-Mobile phones do not work in Ryderwood.) The good news is: the Café can meet all of your tech needs.
I just had another flashback of earlier years in Ryderwood: twice a year, “Town Burns” were scheduled to dispose of fallen and trimmed tree branches and brush. While State open-burning rules were supervised by the Fire Department, the smoke was often an issue in our little dead-end valley. The “Burns” (where the town was never burned) are now a thing of the past since town dues, the Fire Wise program, and donations now provide for professional chipping services. That will happen this week.
Friday’s Café meal will be a Chicken-Fried Steak dinner (call Linda at (360) 295-0875 for reservation) and Nutrition Lunch on June 20 will be Chicken Burritos (call Jan at (360) 295-0597). Saturday evening is the monthly Town Potluck at 5 p.m. in Community Hall.
