Happy April and Happy April Fool's Day. On the latter, a day reserved for pranks and practical jokes is a tradition that dates back many centuries and is practiced in many different geographical regions. It is thought to have originated in France, but it spread quickly and easily elsewhere.
As the days get longer, the greens are greener and more blooms are blossoming every day. A weather system that recently blew through seems to have brought quite an assortment of songbirds. Our beautiful violet-green swallows have arrived and I found a young yellow-rump warbler sitting in the middle of Jackson St. I imagine it was totally exhausted from its flight. It appeared uninjured so I gently placed it under low hanging branches of a spruce tree. I'm hoping it fared well.
Friday night's dinner at the Café will feature Linda's Chicken & Stuffing one-dish meal served with salad, beverage and dessert. Reservations are required and need to be made by 6 p.m. Wednesday - Call Linda at (360) 295-0875.
Saturday will be this month's Town Breakfast hosted by our Veterans. You won't get any better breakfast fare anywhere! Pancakes, eggs how you like them, biscuits and gravy, ham or sausage patty, orange juice and bottomless coffee all for very reasonable prices. All proceeds are reinvested in Ryderwood. These guys do it all. They will be providing the "eats" for the upcoming Garage Sale weekend as well as the Craft Fair and the 4th of July.
Speaking of the 4th of July, there is a donation jar in the Café for anyone wishing to support Vader's fireworks display. They always do a fantastic job and many of the appreciative spectators are from Ryderwood. Let's help them out anyway we can.
Sunday is, of course, Easter Sunday. In addition to what will be a lovely service at the Ryderwood Community Church, the Social Club will host a community potluck dinner. They will provide the meats and diners are asked to bring side dishes, salads and desserts to share. Bring your own table service for a finer dining experience. Please sign up in Community Hall.
Monday has burgers and homemade soups at the Café from 4 to 6 p.m. The burgers - beef, chicken or veggie - are cooked to perfection and served with all the trimmings, including grilled onions if desired. This week has Karaoke at 6:30 p.m., so come early to eat and plan to stay for the music.
Senior Nutrition lunch on Tuesday, April 7, will be Beef & Barley Soup with ½ a Turkey Sandwich with Marinated vegetable Salad, and Cake & Ice Cream. This is also the week that the students from Castle Rock come to serve. For a $3 donation, the meals are a real bargain for those over 60 years of age. Call Jan at (360) 295-0597 to make or break reservations.
Have a great week!
