Happy New Year! We were with the grand-boys for Christmas but I heard that there were nearly 90 people at the Community Dinner. I believe that’s more than attended the Thanksgiving dinner. I know I say this every year, but there’s just nothing quite like these community feasts! While this is being written, we look forward to a fun New Year’s Eve chili dinner at the Café.
With the beginning of the New Year, the regular routine of Town activities gets back on schedule. That will start with the first 2013 VFW Town Breakfast on this Saturday from 8 - 10 a.m. in Community Hall. Next comes the first Ice Cream Social / Card Bingo on Sunday at 6 p.m., also in Community Hall.
The upcoming week has the Women’s Club luncheon meeting at noon on Wednesday the 9th and the Red Hat Ladies meeting on the next day at 2:30 p.m. – both at Pioneer Hall. Both groups welcome any ladies who wish to join in on their activities and fun.
One of the many things that meet my husband’s and my needs in Ryderwood is the availability of occasional hot meals, sometimes with leftovers. Monday evening is Burgers and soup at the Café, Tuesday is the CAP Senior Nutrition Lunch at Community Hall, and Friday night is "fine dining" at the Café. My claim that "I don’t cook!" doesn’t count soup, salads, sandwiches or breakfast.
About the Friday dinners: Menus are planned a month in advance with a volunteer chef plus many helpers providing a sit-down meal each week that includes beverage, salad and dessert. The cost is usually $8 per meal. Advance reservations and payment are necessary by Wednesday so that fresh ingredients can be purchased on Thursday. Call Linda at 295-0875 to make reservations or to inquire. I’ll have menus next week…
