The Castle Rock and Toledo boys basketball teams spent the weekend after Christmas at the Wilbur Ellis Shootout in the Yakima Sundome. The event typically features larger schools against the best small school programs in the state.

Castle Rock's first draw was the always tough Cedar Park Christian from Bothell. CR took the Eagles to five overtimes before succumbing 76-69. Ty Johnson led all scores with 25 points while brother Brock Johnson went for 20. Big man, Mason Klingberg accumulated 19 points during the contest.

The following day, the Rockets came back against Riverside Christian, a private school in Yakima. CR slogged to a 44-35 victory.

"There was not a lot of energy on the floor today," said CR Head Coach Kevin Johnson.

Brock Johnson led all scorers with 22 points, while Ty Jonson broke into double figures with 10.

Toledo chose to match up with two larger schools. On Friday, they took on Overlake out of Redmond. The Indians fell behind by as many as 15 points early but applied the defensive pressure late to force an overtime period. The trio of Forrest Wallace, Brent Wood and Grant McEwen scored 21, 19 and 11 points respectively in the close, respectable loss.

On Saturday, Toledo took on Squalicum from Bellingham and played close until the final moments when the Storm shot nine of ten at the free throw line in the final moments to not only ice the game, but put some distance between the them and the Indians in a 60-52 win.

Toledo senior Brent Wood, hit seven three pointers during the game and totaled 31 points while Grant McEwen at 12points.

The Toledo and Castle Rock girls will be playing in the Ilwaco Holiday Tournament on Monday and Tuesday this week.
