Bring your used plastic plant pots to the WSU Lewis County Master Gardener Plant Sale at the Expo Hall at Southwest Washington Fairgrounds on May 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 22 form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Plastic plant pots must be free of dirt and old planting material, according to Melanie Case, recycling program coordinator for the Lewis County Solid Waste Utility, which is a partner in the recycling event.
"Containers that are still in good condition may be reused," Case said. "All other plastic plant pots will be collected, and hauled away for recycling at the end of the event."
The collection trailer will be set up outside the Expo Hall. Volunteers will be on hand to sort out the pots into reusable and recyclable categories, and answer questions. Master Gardeners will put nicer pots to use for next year. Others will get recycled into new plastic pots and similar plastic materials.
The WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers have partnered with the Utility to add a new component to the popular annual plant sale. "Keeping the plastic plant pots out of the regional landfill just makes sense," Case said.
Questions about the recycling event or Lewis County's recycling programs can be directed to the Utility at 360-740-1452.
