we were close to being unable to access not only our shore side facilities, but the ability to even leave the marina due to sediment.

Last fall the Port mobilized its dredging equipment in Bay Center and spent four months dredging the channel and boat basin. We now have water under our boats, we are able to access the Bay and Ocean, and can once again utilize our shore side facilities.

The mission of the Port of Willapa Harbor states that they are “to be an economic catalyst in Pacific County through the development and maintenance of economic and community infrastructure.” Well, we in Bay Center feel that the Port has not only lived up to that mission, but hit a home run.

A big thank you to Commissioners Tim Bond, Patti Lignoski, Todd Stephens along with Rebecca Chaffee, manager, and Dawn King, worked diligently to procure permits (three-year process) and then provided equipment and a knowledgeable crew (Bill Buchkoski,Garth Gerber, Mike Denniston, Travis Reeves and Steve Porter) to do the work.

Also, thank you to Dick Wilson, Jim Stackhouse, Mick Pine and the crew at Bay Center Farms for providing alternate moorage.

Again, a loud round of applause to all the folks who made this happen.

The following people would like to publicly thank the Port of Willapa Harbor for the recent work done at the Bay Center Marina.

Nick Jambor, Kevin Funkhouser, Eric Pettit, Leonard Bennett, Jim Moreno, Steve and Andi Shotwell, Phil Olsen, Marvin Green, Ricki Bayne, and Deniel Kirpes.
