The results of the Market Livestock sale from the Pacific County Fair are in showing an average price per pound at $3.25 for beef a little more than a year ago, and $4.30 for pork.
During the 2013 auction, beef prices ranged from $3-$3.40 averaging at $3.20, and this year prices went from $2.70-$5 edging up the average price by a nickel.
Pork prices dropped this year. In 2013 hog prices ranged from $4.25-$5.25 bringing in an average price per pound at $4.70. This year at auction, hogs had a wider range from $2.75 to as much as $5.50, yet averaged out a little lower at $4.30.
But of course it is not really about the price per pound as it is as much as the participation from the community and the commitment from the students that raised the animals and brought them to market. A great job by all who participated this year.
