free throw competition in the 12-13-year-old Division by draining 22 of 25 free throws. The competition was held in Bellevue Feb. 15-17. Oblad qualified for the event by taking first place at the Elks District Hoop Shoot.
Oblad also won the Gerken-Schneider Shooter of the Day trophy. Oblad now heads to the Regional Hoop Shoot in Portland, Ore., May 1-2. The competition will be held at Clarks Community College.
At the district level, Oblad tied another boy with 23 made free throws. He won after a three-round shoot off.
Two years ago, Oblad went all the way to the National Hoop Shoot competition in Springfield, Mass., where he finished second in the 10-11 Division.
Two other youngsters, Kylie Gardner and Georgia Lavinder also competed at the State event after winning the district hoop shoot competition.
Also at the district level, Tyler Adkins took second place in the 8-9-year-old division and Logan Walker finished second with a three-round shoot off.
At the State competition, Gardner of Raymond competed in the 8-9 Division and placed third while sinking 15 of 25 free throws. Lavinder of Raymond also placed third in the 12-13 Division while nailing 19 of 25 shots.
The National Elks club sponsors the Hoop Shoot. Joe Basil of the Raymond Elks helps run the event.
