N.Q. (Nob and Quality Hills) Garden Club is gearing up for their annual Plant and Gardening Sale to be held on Highway 101 at the Canary Cottages this year.  Current president Cathy Brown announced that the hours would be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until everything is gone! That’s the day before Mother’s Day, Saturday, May 11.

Several Master Gardeners are members of the group. Their expertise with unique local gardening issues will help in selection of plants, planting times, garden layouts and many other related questions. They’ll be on duty throughout the day to help with selections.

Available items will include houseplants lovingly nurtured by June Potts. Her specialties are sedum and African Violets. With the help of Cathy Brown, she has also started large Legends Tomato plants (determinate, extra early), delicious Patty Pan and Crook Neck Squash eager to spread out in the garden, artichoke plants, (yes, they do grow here). She has also designed some sand gardens using air plants (easy to grow, rarely need water) and assorted gardening goodies for kids five to ninety-five. Some gifts are even wrapped and ready for giving.

Plants and Mother’s Day gifts starting at $1 will be on hand. All proceeds will go to the planting and maintenance of the Ray Spurrell dock and landscaped area in downtown South Bend, a project of the club for many years. The group plans to have those areas prepared and planted by late May.
