Moving Ahead… Looking Back

Christians have a different view of life. They have an added ingredient in determining how things are going. God is in the picture.  We are not alone.  In every event, occasion, or situation God is that added ingredient that gives meaning and confidence in the hard times and the good times. Think about that with me for a moment. Christians believe God is not only with them, but loves them, and wants them to experience that love. God offers grace and favor for their lives.  God offers His presence with them.

There is a vivid picture of this in today’s news. We all know the Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church are meeting now to select the next Pope. The meetings are closed and held without any contact with the outside world. However, I have noticed from several news reports that the Cardinals and members of the Catholic Church believe God is involved in this whole process. They believe it won’t be fate or luck that determines the next Pope. They believe God is involved. That is how it should be.

Now, look at last year and your tax return. Do you see evidence of God’s presence? How about your marriage? Any sign of God’s working there? How about your job, your health, your home, and your friends? Take a look. Last August before I retired I had an accident and fractured my back. Plans were moving ahead for our move and I wondered how we could pack up and move. My surgeon would not allow me to lift anything over ten pounds. During that time God taught me His presence was all I needed and the move came off without a hitch with me on the sidelines. Our daughters and their husbands, some of our friends, and First Baptist Church family did it all.  It was very hard to go through that time, but the results were awesome – even without me. God’s grace and favor was all I needed.

Now we are looking forward to this year because we know better than ever that God is with us.  We are not alone.  Jesus has promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  God wants to make a difference in our lives.  If you will put your trust in Him, He offers abundant life to you now. This year can be the best year ever, if you commit your way to the Lord and trust in Him. Then when tax season comes around a year from now, you will be praising God for His unending love and faithfulness.
