Toledo Baseball Sweeps Defending State Champion Adna
In what was a key victory for Toledo in the race for the Central 2B league title, the Indians defeated the Adna Pirates in both games. Game one started off very unfavorable for Toledo with ace pitcher Wes Kuzminsky walking the first three batters. The patient Adna batters forced a very early pitching change, one which does not usually happen to Kuzminsky. The three baserunners came around to score on a single by Bryce McCloskey, a balk, and a couple of errors. Adna held a 4-1 lead in the fifth after McCloskey drove in a run off a fielder's choice. Toledo got a two out rally going in the fifth inning when they stringed together five straight hits in what was a turnaround moment in the game. Dalton Yoder had an RBI double and Connor Vermilyea had an RBI single during that stretch. The Indians put five runs across in the fifth inning and held on for the 6-4 win.
Dalton Yoder pitched the third and fourth innings and would be credited for the win. Yoder went 2-4 and Connor Vermilyea went 3-4 with two RBIs.
Game two was suspended until the following day after seven innings due to darkness with the game tied at 10. The nightcap was completed on Thursday night and Toledo won 11-10. Jackson Kuzminsky, Connor Vermilyea, and Dylan Hoiseck each had two hits. The Indians barreled 14 hits in the second game. Wes Kuzminsky started the second game, pitching four innings while giving up six hits and four runs. Dalton Yoder relieved for two innings but also gave up four runs. Connor Vermilyea would be credited with the win after pitching the sixth and seventh innings, striking out five Pirates and the runs which came across against him were both unearned.
