The two-day affair was held at Highlands Golf Course in Cosmopolis recently. The top eight placers competed at the state match. Also qualifying were 2. Bryson Coleman, Wahkiakum, 167; 3. Bubba Calvert, Wahkiakum, 168; 4. Zach Calvert, Wahkiakum, 172; 4. Austin Good, Wahkiakum, 172; 6. Elliot Haney, Wahkiakum, 173; 7. Bradley Peek, Wahkiakum, 176; 8. Nicholas Betrozoff, WV, 177.
Other local scores included Nicholas Topping, RHS, 192; Landon Maneman, RHS, 197; Zane Johnson, SB, 191; Cameron McAllister, WV, 192; Kyler Oblad, WV, 196; Spencer Schwiesow, WV, 209.
“Nicholas Topping and Cameron McAllister both shot 89 on the second day to recoup from shaky first rounds,” Willapa Harbor Tri-District Head Golf Coach Dave Lund told the Herald. “Connor and Nicholas both did an excellent job of playing steady golf. Connor ground out 36 holes with very few errors. He was five strokes back going in to the second day and slowly reeled in the leaders. He took the lead on the 32nd hole with a birdie and then sank a 40-foot putt on the 36th hole to clinch the district championship. Nicholas was a little disappointed with his first round score of 89, but his 88 on day two was good enough to qualify him for State, and that made him a little happier. He is only a sophomore whereas Connor is a senior.”
