Local family receives anonymous prize for Christmas decorations

The Alvord family, in Winlock received a surprise in time for Christmas on Dec. 23 when they were told the lighting display in their front yard had earned them the 2014 Christmas Spirit Award, the first honor of its kind given in Winlock. Mayor Lonnie J. Dowell said two anonymous donors had given the city $100 to be given to the house Dowell and his wife felt had the best display of Christmas lights, adding continued awards will depend on the generosity of such community members in the future.

Alvord said his family typically hangs an elaborate light display at their house during the holidays, with wife Lindsey Alvord stating she had previously been bummed out to hear Toledo was having a holiday light contest and her house was not within the areas being considered for contestants. "I really appreciate that," said Scott Alvord of the award. "That's really neat."
