Based in Vancouver, B.C., Diane Lines has performed on six continents and appeared with a variety of entertainers. She was the pianist for Grammy nominated Michael Buble for two years and has recorded and toured with Canadian Juno Award winning singer/songwriter Gary Fjellgaard. Lines' theater credits include the Arts Club Theatre's acclaimed production of “Tapestry: A Tribute to Carole King”.
In her show, “Jump!”, Lines and her band forge a uniquely feminine approach to the era of jump blues, the era that combined elements of swing blues and boogie-woogie, the era that predicted mainstream rock and roll and the popular music of a generation. Driving rhythms, vocal harmonies, clever lyrics and superb musicianship exemplify the fun and flavor of the Jump Blues era in American music. Lines and her band combine energy, high-octane musicianship and natural wit making the audience “feel they are at a great musical party with a personal friend,”
Lines' performance also celebrates the fourth anniversary of the grand piano at the Raymond Theatre. In November 2009, after a six-week blizzard of fund-raising, “Bella Sorella” dedicated the 1916 Boardman & Grey piano just before a performance. The “beautiful sisters” pianist, Ed Goldfarb, was so enthralled with the piano he offered to come back for a one-man show later, which he did.
When Lines heard the story behind the piano, she wrote to Virginia Carlson: “Thank you for sharing the piano story! It is flattering, and touching and heartfelt. I love it! ... I think of pianos as having personalities and emotions informed by their histories, who has played them and who has taken care of them .... So I can't wait to meet your beloved piano - I'm sure she and I will get along famously!”
Lines received her musical education at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Humber School of Creative and Performing Arts in Toronto, and at the Wavendon Music Program in England. She has toured internationally and throughout the United States as keyboardist and vocalist for Mac Frampton and his Hollywood Hills Orchestra.
Lines’ performance at the Raymond Theatre is sponsored by Diane and Michael O'Meagher, Security State Bank, Pioneer Grocery and Pacific Eye Clinic.
