It was that time of year again. The time of year where the Toledo Indians faced against their arch rivals, the Winlock Cardinals. For this game, the Indians traveled to the home of the Cardinals. After the warmups, the teams met on the court for the anticipated game.
The game quickly shifted to Toledo's advantage when they gained the tip off. After a few minutes of back and forth play, Gabe Fuentes from Toledo made the first two points for Toledo. Shortly after, Dawson Hall made the first points for Winlock. The game continued with basket for basket plays until Winlock took the lead with two points. As the quarter began to draw to an end, Toledo took the lead when Reece Wallace scored back to back. This concluded the quarter with Toledo in the lead and the score of 10 to eight.
Following the short break between the quarters, Toledo jumped on the quarter from the very start. After three baskets following each other from Toledo, a time out was called and the score board read 16 to eight. After the time out, Reece Wallace shot a three pointer for the Indians and was followed up with another two points scored by him as well. Toledo continued to run the score up on Winlock as the Cardinals fought to stay alive with great points by Wyatt Dean and Dawson Hall. At the end of the second quarter, Winlock trailed behind Toledo as the score read 30 to 19.
Once the halftime ended and the game could continue, the Cardinals scored the first few baskets before Toledo returned them. Continuing into the quarter, the teams battled back and forth with each other. When Winlock would increase their score, Toledo would meet it. When the Indians would make a risky shot, the Cardinals would do the same. The score board read 42 to 30 with the Indians in the lead at the end of the third quarter.
With one more quarter to go before the end of the game, the teams knew this was the last time to shut the other team down. Starting with the advantage on Toledo's side, Gabe Fuentes scored four points for Toledo before going out of the game before his free throws from a technical. In his place, Joe Wallace entered the game. Following this scene, the Indians and Cardinals returned to their back and forth plays. When the game came to an end, the Toledo Indians had the victory over the Winlock Cardinals with 60 to 55.
The Cardinals next game will take place on December 29th against Northwest Christian at Northwest Christian High school. The Indians will play their next game will be January 5th at home against Pe Ell.
