The second annual Gravity Races are scheduled to take place this Saturday in Vader with registration starting at 8 a.m. and the races at 11 a.m.
Held on the steep east entrance to the city on SR 506, entrants are expected to speed downhill in a combination of home-made and heavily-engineered machines, all vying for first place. Last year’s overall winner was Robert Charlton, who was clocked at 31 mph riding in Blue Wedge.
It’s not too late to submit an entry, as long as it can meet downhill derby car requirements such as adequate steering, breaking and safety restraints. Prizes for entries include gift certificates from local restaurants as well as items donated by local hardware and camping stores.
And those who simply want to watch are welcome to find a nice spot along SR 506 to relax while taking advantage of the multiple food vendors.
