Grandparents honored at Winlock Elementary

Every year our local schools celebrate Grandparents Day, and this year was no exception. Winlock Miller Elementary School held their special Grandparents Day lunch on Thursday, Nov. 17, and it was definitely a packed house. Grandparents and adopted grandparents were at the grade school for lunch. Turkey and all the trimmings were served, and a photographer was there to capture the special time together.

Lunch was served cafeteria-style in the grade school gymnasium. Winlock High School FFA students were on hand to help.

Sandra Dean, a junior and FFA member said, "It's fun to meet all the little kids."

It was obvious she was having fun.

JJ West, daughter of Erin West, sat with her grandpa, Terry Williams and her great grandparents, Anne and Roland Randt. JJ was asked how she got both her grandparents there. Her grandmother Anne stated JJ called and said "bring that papa that lives with you tomorrow," meaning she wanted her great grandfather to have lunch with her, too.

Grandparents Randy and Carrie Pennington were adopted for the day. They weve adopted by Laila Lopez who said, "I love my family. They are gonna eat with me."

Shana Marrs of Chart Well, which manages the staff at the Winlock Miller Elementary cafeteria, said, "We appreciate the hard work of the cafeteria staff and Chart Well employees."

Marrs anticipated they would serve around 500 lunches in just a few hours.

It was definitely a successful lunch. A special thank you to Kim Whitehead and her family for taking the time the previous evening to organize and decorate for the event.
