Thanksgiving dinner at St. Francis Mission

Sacred Heart Parish, in Winlock, and St. Francis Mission, in Toledo, will once again offer their annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner, open to anyone who would not otherwise have a special day on Nov. 28.

Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Mission (139 Spencer Rd., Toledo).

Toledo New Life hosting Thanksgiving dinner

The Toledo New Life Assembly will be hosting a Thanksgiving celebration Saturday at 5 p.m. and invite the Toledo community attend.

Come and enjoy a four-course meal with all the trimmings during an evening of food, laughter and getting to know each other better. This event is free and is offered as a thanks to the community on behalf of the church.

Finn Lodge looking for volunteer entertainers

The Winlock branch of the Finn Lodge is planning a Christmas Dinner at the Hope Grange on Dec. 8 at 1 p.m., and volunteers are being sought to help with entertainment for the event.

The dinner is free with “pot-luck” desserts, and will also feature live entertainment, currently including Shawnell Frady, Picabou Worden, Gracci Worden, Jessica Rath and Isabella Rath.

To help with the dinner, please contact the lodge prior to the end of the month.

Master Gardener classes open for enrollment

WSU Lewis County Master Gardeners are still recruiting for the 2014 class and encourage interested green-thumbs to participate in this community-minded program.

Master Gardeners have presented more than 50 free workshops this last year to gardeners new and experienced, young and old. They consist of specially-trained volunteer educators who receive research-based horticulture training from the Washington State University Extension program, including web-based education and hands-on training.

Training for the next crop of Master Gardeners begins in January, but registration is now open. For more information about the program, or to request an application, contact the WSU Lewis County Master Gardener office at (360) 740-1212 or e-mail debbie.burris@lewiscountywa.gov.

Garden club hosting Christmas party

The Toledo Garden Club has planned a Christmas Party for Dec. 5 local gardening enthusiasts are welcome to attend.

Participants will meet at the Toledo Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. and carpool to Great Wall for a luncheon and gift exchange (limit $5 for gift), and then round out the day with a trip to the DeGoede Bulb Farm in Mossyrock.

Town Crier seeking Winlock columnist

Town Crier is seeking a local writer who can help cover the Winlock area starting next month.

We’re looking for someone involved in community organizations and events who can write out weekly Winlock column, keeping an eye out for what’s going on and keeping our readers informed of local news.

If you feel you qualify, or are simply interested in becoming more involved with your community, send an email to Stephen Floyd at towncrier@flannerypubs.com. Previous writing experience is not necessary, but regular access to a personal computer is needed, as well as an ability to meet deadline regularly.
