Sun may be warm, but water still too cold
Authorities would like to remind residents that, though the next several days are forecasted for warm weather, local bodies of water are still frigid as snow in the mountains continues to melt and flow downstream.

In a release sent Monday, The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office has noted several deaths in the recent past reported during this time of year, as the low temperatures can cause your muscles to cramp and lead to drowning.

"In 50-degree water, you have a 50 percent chance of swimming 50 feet," said the report. "These are not good odds."

Local bodies of water are usually not warm enough for swimming until June and, warm or otherwise, all recreationalists are cautioned to use sound judgment and swim while sober, never alone and with access to a flotation device when necessary.
