Around one in three seniors have been forced to choose between medicine and food. One in seven people in Washington says they have had to visit a food bank at some point in their lives. Visits to food banks are up 35% since the recession began.
In the area we serve poverty rates average 25% for children, with Grays Harbor and Pacific counties at 30% and 29% respectively. The state average for childhood poverty currently sits at 19%.
Coastal Harvest is the nonprofit food distribution warehouse that supplies over 50 food banks, feeding programs, and senior centers for 7 counties. All of that work we do is at no charge to these agencies.
Our trucks haul in food from locations and donors across the state. The food is stored, separated, and, in most cases, delivered directly to our partner agencies. We do the work that these smaller organizations would struggle to do on their own.
