The Hoquiam City Jail is currently undergoing an expansion, that was the result of a bid request that was brought before the Hoquiam City Council. The bid included all of the work necessary for the jail expansion and four alternates which included all of the needed improvements at the facility. On September 14 the council accepted the bid for $311,000. The expansion will house 12 female inmates, bringing the total bunked capacity of the jail to 30. The expansion will segment the jail into two smaller sections, which is easier and safer for any on duty police service officers to deal with the inmates. The expansion wil also completely seperate the female and male sections to prevent any sort of communication.
