WWII Coast Guard Beach Patrol

Due to the panic induced by the attack against Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Americans on the west coast were so much in fear of another attack or even an invasion that a weather balloon that was seen over Los Angeles was targeted by anti aircraft efforts and rained hot metal debris down onto the city. Americans were more paranoid than ever with the German U-Boats sinking merchant ships that were in sight off of the coast; the war was on the United States' doorstep.
