Aldine T. Salstrom

Aldine T. Salstrom

Born February 16, 1926, in Portland, Oregon, to Edward and Wylma (Wollesen) Dietzko, Aldine passed away January 25, 2013. She spent her last hours comforted by family and friends.

She is survived by sons Jerry (Patty), Rich (Sandy), Dan (Pat), and daughter Vicki (Dick) Harris, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild and stepbrothers Henry and Roy Guist. Her parents preceded her in death, stepfather Henry Guist, brothers Harold and Don Dietzko and her beloved husband, Sid, in 2006.

Aldine grew up in Willapa, graduating salutatorian from the Willapa Valley class of 1944. She married Sid Salstrom February 10, 1945. After the war, the family settled in Auburn and then moved to their new home in Tacoma in 1953 where she lived until 2011.

She enjoyed family trips to California, Reno and weekend trips to Willapa. Pinochle games were a constant at family gatherings — with Aldine always getting up to get someone more coffee or pie. Her friends and neighbors became family and all the kids called her Grandma Aldine. Her other passions were her pet cats and her flower gardens but, most of all, she loved caring for her family.

Arrangements are by Powers Funeral Home of Sumner. A memorial celebration is planned for 3 p.m. February 17 at The Weatherly Inn, 6016 N. Highlands Pkwy., Tacoma. Interment at Tahoma National Cemetery.
