The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is preparing for a favorite annual tradition - Shop with a Cop, in partnership with Chehalis Walmart. This holiday season marks the 15th year of this fun-filled evening for the agency, and children from Lewis County.
On December 15, deputies and corrections deputies will take approximately 35 children to the Chehalis Walmart to shop for Christmas. When finished shopping, children will go to the Sheriff's Office to wrap their presents with the sheriff's support staff, eat pizza, and play bingo for some great prizes.
The Sheriff's Office works with United Way of Lewis County to find children in need of a positive experience with law enforcement, as well as those in need of financial assistance.
The program is open to children ages 8 to 18 who reside in Lewis County. Applications are now available from the United Way website at www.lewiscountyuw.com; their office at 450 NW Pacific Avenue, Chehalis; or by calling the United Way office at (360) 748-8100. Applications are also available at the front counter of the Sheriff's Office or on our Facebook Page.
Counselors, neighbors, social workers, church leaders, parents, teachers, and other community members are encouraged to nominate children they feel would benefit from the program. United Way seeks applicants with both financial need and a need for positive interaction with a police officer. The deadline to submit applications is November 23.
"Shop with a Cop is an event our office looks forward to every year. The excitement of the children shopping for their families is amazing and contagious. It is a very positive experience for all involved," said Sheriff Snaza.
Shop with a Cop is funded through Sheriff's Office employee donations, public donations, and various fundraisers and grants coordinated by the Lewis County Sheriff's Office Association. Donations to sustain the program are greatly appreciated and can be sent to the Sheriff's Office Association at: LCSOA, Attn: Sherri Guenther, 345 W. Main Street, Chehalis, WA 98532.
