Winlock’s Jared Pohll starts Special Olympics torch run

Winlock High School student Jared Pohll (center) ran a ceremonial torch for the Special Olympics out of Winlock High School Thursday morning, cheered on by fellow students and local supporters of the event. The torch run, which serves as a fundraiser by the Centralia Police Department, begins in Winlock and spans multiple locations throughout Lewis County, ending at Thorbeckes, in Centralia. Centralia Police Chief Robert Berg said he is proud his officers are able to regularly raise around $20,000 each year to support Special Olympians, indicating some of his officers have found themselves involved in both national and international Special Olympic events through their local efforts. A separate, official run began the Washington Summer Games last weekend at Ft. Lewis.
