Those who have been eager to continue helping with Clean Up the Coop will have a chance to do so again starting this month, after the program took a break for the summer. The next cleanup day will be Saturday, Sept. 13, and will continue on the second Saturdays of the month. Those interested in helping are encouraged to meet at Lions Pride Park at 10 a.m. on the day of, and those with questions can call Viola Chickese at (360) 785-0178.
The Winlock School District has begun their Stuff the Bus program and local residents are asked to help by contributing school supplies for needy students. Now through Friday, donations will be packed into a bus outside the district office with the goal of filling the entire vehicle. For more info, call (360) 785-3582.
Unity Works will be hosting a gathering at the Winlock Community Building this Saturday and all are welcome to attend. Featured will be drummers from Congo Willie Productions, as well as guest speaker Paula Warme. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a drum circle and group singing at 10 a.m. and a potluck at noon, while crafts will be available for sale throughout the day. The end of the month is coming, so be certain to complete your scavenger hunt list for the Winlock Timberland Library. Due on Saturday, those who complete the scavenger hunt, which includes items such as a lava rock, a pattern in nature and a leaf as big as your face, will win real-live magic beans. Be sure to completed your list in time, and don't worry about being first--all who turn in a completed list will win.
And starting Sept. 1, the library will be operating with new, expanded hours and will be open regularly on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will remain closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Sept. 5 will feature a Page Turners Book Discussion from 12:30-1:30 p.m., featuring "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn.
Then, starting Sept. 12 and running through Nov. 21, the library will host Family Story Time every Friday from 10:30-11:15 a.m. For more info, call (360) 785-3461.
If you're interested in serving on the Winlock Park Board, letters of interest are still being accepted. Three positions within the city limits and one position within the Winlock School District are available, and members will set a regular time to meet and conduct business, as well as appoint a chairperson to lead the board. Those interested in applying for the open positions may do so by contacting City Hall at (360) 785-3811, or may drop off a letter of intent to their offices at 323 NE First St. Members will then be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council.
