I received a call from TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) and they have a member of KOPS (Kept off Pounds Sensibly) for 20 years. Her name is Kay Johnson and she has been successful in keeping her weight off, what incredible will power she must have. TOPS meet every Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Winlock Assembly of God, behind the Chapel. If you would like to join, feel free to call Louva Wood at (360) 262-9612.
My interview this week is with a well-known Winlock figure, Coach Mike Voie. This is another interview I will be doing in two parts. Mike coaches Winlock’s football team, and I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I have.
TC: You went away to get your education and came back. Why Winlock?
MV: It was always a goal to come back to Winlock and coach. I loved playing football at WHS. I loved our school and I loved it here and I liked the way the community got behind us. Pretty exciting!
TC: What drives you to coach?
MV: I love football. I can’t play anymore and this is the next best thing to it. There are not too many things more exciting that a Fall Friday night in a small town.
TC: What is the one thing you want your students to learn before they graduate?
MV: I want my students and players to know that they are capable of a lot more than they think they are. They all have a lot to offer the world, every one of them.
Thank you, Mike, for being the great guy that you are, we need more people in the world who are as dedicated as you ar.! Look for part two next week!
Winlock Timberland Library has two events. On Thursday, they have their Page Turners Book Group from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for grades 1 – 3. Then, on Tuesday, they present "Hungry for Change" from 6 - 7:30 p.m. for Adults and Teens. Kate Moore will discuss everything from degenerative diseases, what causes them and how to bring the body back to optimal health. She will also discuss how food is important to every part of the body.
"Bunco night" will be held on March 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Building to benefit the Egg Day Royal Court. I talked to organizer Viola Chickese, who said they will offer a $20 buy-in to the party, which includes one raffle ticket and refreshments. They have nice door prizes for the raffle: baskets of Pet Care, Hair Care and Sauna along with a few more. There are flyers around town if you have any questions. We need as many people to show up as possible, please join the town for an evening of fun!!
