We are now firmly planted into 2014; is the New Year treating you well? I decided I would take more time to learn the history of Winlock this year. One of the ways I enjoy learning about Winlock is via the Internet, especially Facebook. Facebook has different pages for Winlock; Egg Day, The Firehouse and my favorite is “You know you are from Winlock when…” If you haven’t taken the time to look, I recommend you do. There are old photos and stories, the kind that make you go “Awww”.
Cecilia Swinney (Rarey) just celebrated her 100th birthday at the Winlock Senior Center. I was unable to attend but my parents (who just celebrated 55 yrs of marriage on Dec. 31) were there and said her family gave her a nice party. Cecilia was a resident of St. Urban for many years and raised her family there.
Activities: The Winlock Senior Center has a trip to the Snoqualmie Casino coming up on Jan. 20. It leaves the Senior Center at 8:45 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. from Walmart in Chehalis. The cost is $30 per person. Fun is guaranteed unfortunately, winning is not! Also, the Senior Center is in need of a low-impact aerobics instructor; contact JoAnn at (360) 785-0304 if interested. Winlock Library on January is hosting an “Apocalypse Survivors Support Group” Jan. 18 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. Come and learn new survival skills. Also, don’t forget the upcoming “Clean the Coop” meeting on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. at The Christian Fellowship Church.
Next for my “get to know ya” series is Judi (Randt) Williams. Judi has lived here all her life, married the town cop (Terry) and raised her family here too. She is what I consider “good people”, I have known her all my life. If you are down and need a laugh; she will put you in stitches!
TC: What is your idea of perfect happiness?
JW: Being in Disneyland with my Grandkids
TC: What is your greatest fear?
JW: That Disneyland will close their doors
TC: Where were you born?
JW: St. Helens Hospital in Chehalis
TC: What is one thing the people in Winlock may not know about you?
JW: That I go to Disneyland every year even if my Grandchildren don’t go. My sister Janice and I go by ourselves and turn in to big kids
Finally, what is it about dogs and chasing their tails? Our neighbors have a dog that is a pug, he visits often which we enjoy and get quite the kick out of. The one thing that makes me laugh every time is his ability to chase his tail. If I didn’t know better, his tail is trying to run away without him because he chases it so fast, he makes even me dizzy.
