The Winlock Lions Club has announced the 2013 recipient of the Otis Roundtree Award for outstanding performance and leadership on the Winlock High School football team.
Senior J.W. Shipman had been presented the award in Nov. 30 and joins a long list of recipients dating back to 1928. Winners are selected by a secret ballot supervised by the Lions Club, and receive a personalized plaque as well as their name engraved on a perpetual trophy at the high school.
Shipman commented he was proud to be presented with the award and acknowledged the long line of outstanding players he was joining.
“All my hard work and leadership paid off and I got the award I have dreamed of since my Freshman year,” he said. “Thank you every one who voted for me.”
