As Democrats, we are united in our support of strong schools and opportunity for EVERY Washington child.
That's why Democrats support Initiative 1351 to reduce class size for every child, in every grade.
Right now, Washington ranks 47th in the nation for class size. Because of the recession, education spending has been gutted. To make matters worse, Republicans in the State Senate have blocked efforts to close loopholes and adequately fund our schools. This is simply unacceptable.
Class size reduction is most urgent in high-poverty school districts, so 1351 is written to phase-in those schools first.
We also know that small class sizes are critical in math and science classes, where individual attention is critical to acquiring the skills needed for future economic success.
Please join Democrats, teachers, parents, and community leaders across the state: vote YES on I-1351. Our kids deserve better than 47th.
