The Park Board is looking for volunteers to help with upcoming projects, including the installation of railroad-themed decorations and a fence at Werden Park. The Park Board has also announced a decision to re-open McMurphy Park in light of improvements in the weather, though the park may be closed temporarily in the event of heavy rain or storms.

Time remains to sign up for the CPR/First Aid class offered at City Hall. The class is scheduled for March 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the cost is $50, and comes with a three-year certificate of completion from the American Heart Association. City Hall has also announced an upcoming public hearing regarding the city's Shoreline Master Plan (SMP). Scheduled for March 26 at 6 p.m., the public is invited to attend the hearing or submit written testimony beforehand, while a copy of the SMP may be viewed in City Hall or at

Cowlitz-Lewis Fire District 20 has postponed a vote on a resolution that would add a levy increase to the November ballot as they need to confirm with the County Auditor's Office that all their information is correctly represented. Commissioners with the district are expected to pass the resolution and engage the community in understanding what the added funding would be used for.

The Vader City Council has chosen to proceed with drafting a contract hiring Bart Ricks, of Mano, Mckerricher & Paroutaud Inc., as the city's hearings examiner, with such a contract expected to be presented at their March 26 meeting. A hearings examiner is expected to allow the city to begin pursuing action against violators of city nuisance laws, such as old burned out buildings and accumulated solid waste.

The next food giveaway by the Vader Assembly of God Church will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon outside the post office, while their next food bank opening will be March 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, call the church at (360) 295-3756.
