Resident Judy Costello reports she has raised enough money to get started on additions to the floral display on A St. across from the post office. Costello said residents came though with providing the $600 needed for the project, and the new display should be ready by April 28, just in time for May Day.
The Vader Lions Club is inviting residents to take part in their 8th annual crab feed on Feb. 28 at the Vader Assembly of God Church. One of the club's biggest annual fundraisers, crab dinners will be available for $26 for a whole crab, $18 for a half crab, and $10 for lasagna for those seeking seafood alternatives. All dinners come with salad, garlic bread, beverages and dessert. The fundraiser runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and ticket sales for the event end Feb. 20. The City of Vader will be holding a public hearing this Thursday at City Hall to take testimony regarding a recent renewal of the city's ban against medical and recreational marijuana businesses. Scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., the purpose of the hearing is to determine if the ban extension is warranted, and those unable to attend may submit their testimony in writing beforehand, and may also listen to the hearing afterward at www.youtube.com/user/vaderwa.
Cowlitz-Lewis Fire District 20 will be holding their regular Board of Commissioners meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Fire Hall. Residents are invited to attend and hear the latest in fire and EMS business for the area, as well as offer public comment if they so choose. The district has also announced there will be an open commissioner position during the November General Election, and those interested in running may file their candidacy starting May 11.
The Vader Assembly of God Church's next food giveaway will be Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon outside the post office and residents are invited to drop by and take home boxes of food.
