The Vader Lions Club is on the lookout for new members to help bolster their community outreach efforts. Becoming active once again this September, those interested in joining may call Lois Wilson at (360) 295-3002.
Those who had been preparing for this week's public hearing on a temporary ban against recreational marijuana businesses in town should note the hearing has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall. Residents are encouraged to offer verbal input, or written testimony, regarding how they would like to see such businesses regulated, if at all, and those needing more information or accommodations may call (360) 295-3222.
This week's regular council meeting is scheduled to take place as planned, though with a different starting time of 6 p.m. Council members chose to alter the time during their last meeting, and 6 p.m. is expected to be the starting time for all upcoming meetings, which take place the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.
The Vader Assembly of God Church will be holding their regular food giveaway this Wednesday outside the post office, and all area residents are invited to drop by and grab free bread, chips and other food items. Those who miss this even may also take part on the church's next regular food bank opening on Tuesday, Sept. 9, starting at 10 a.m.
On Sept. 13, Vader will again be a location for those involved in the National Day of Service organized as an effort to show community support and patriotism after the World Trade Center Attacks. City Hall says they need volunteers who can offer time and/or weed eaters for this project, which will involve various tasks throughout the city. The National Day of Service will be taking place from 8 a.m. to noon.
